Rangers dominate in Boston!
After a night of rest Henrik Lundqvist responds with a stellar performance in goal stopping 29 of 30 Boston shots as the Rangers added two more points in the standings. Now holding down sole possession of 6th place in the Eastern Conference with 50 points, they are only a point behind the Bruins who now have lost two straight.
Michael Del Zotto would put the Rangers on the board first in the first period of play with a beautiful back hand driving to the net after making a move around S. Chara. Dubinsky and Girardi were the set up men on the play.
Period one was when Lundqvist would be tested and he was there for all eleven of the Bruins shots, sharp and in position the man was on his game. Especially when asked to stop a penalty shot when Marco Sturm was tripped up on a breakaway on a short handed attempt. Even though it looked like Marco took a dive on the replay, from the refs view he saw a take down. No worries Lundqvist was quick to make a pad save on the penalty shot and keep the Bruins off the board.
Period two Lundqvist could of took a nap as the Bruins were only able to get three shots at the Rangers goal in what could of been the teams most solid period of the season. Even though the Rangers would only score one goal in the second period of play they totally dominated. Putting up 21 shots they controlled the tempo and most of the period was in the Bruins zone.
Dubinsky would put the Rangers up two zip in a scramble in front of the Bruins goal gaining his second point of the night. Bruins goalie was exceptionally well in this period stopping the Rangers many times. Notably a big one time drive from Dury when Thomas slid across the crease to make a big save. Dury's game has been on as of late, and I hear he should be named Team USA's Alternate captain for the upcoming Olympics in Vancouver.
Christensen who has been riding his confidence of late would hurt the Bruins hope for any chance of a come back when he would wrist a shot past a diving Thomas for a 3-0 Rangers lead on a feed from Gaborik and Dubinsky only thirty seven seconds into the final session.
The assist on the play was Dubinsky's third point of the night and he matched his career high for points in a game.
The only thing left would be a shutout attempt for the King but the Bruins Wideman finally broke on though this Ranger wall taking a blast inside the blue line that would sail on though with only 3:44 remaining.
The Rangers are now 8-1-3 in their last twelve games getting at least one point in eleven of those matches.
Next up for the Blue Shirts is the first place New Jersey Devils which will be another big test on Tuesday Jan. 12th at MSG.
